This evening I was coming home from auditions and got a picture of an old barn with clouds in the background and I was going to use it as my picture of the day. After eating some supper next door, I went and checked out the weather. A thunderstorm was popping lightning to my east. I got to my house, grabbed my camera, tripod, a sweatshirt (to protect me from the mosquitoes), and my remote release to get some lightning shots. I took 206 storm shots. Of those, 65 had some sort of lightning in them. I picked the most magnificent ones and this was the winner. I will post the other contenders in a post tomorrow.
Here is the meteor I caught while doing my star trail last night. Since I do 30 second shots, I was able to process the two pictures that had the meteor in it and edit it so it can be seen a bit better. Sometime in August is the Perseid Meteor shower. I’m hoping to catch more meteors as peak of the shower approaches.
My apologies for the late post. It gets dark kinda late and I wanted to get a star trail this evening. It’s been a while since I did one. As you can see, I was able to catch a meteor while shooting the star trail. I will post a picture of just the meteor tomorrow sometime. This is 63 x 30 second shots merged together in Photoshop with a free action I found. I have to take 30 second shots because of light pollution. I also had to process this in black and white because of light pollution. If anybody is interested on how I did this, let me know in the comments or send me an email through my Contact Page and I’ll be more than happy to help you out.
And for those interested, I was listening to Shine On You Crazy Diamond by Pink Floyd while processing this shot. Pink Floyd is my favorite band. :D
This afternoon, the clouds were doing there summertime thing and popping showers all over southern Louisiana. I drove a couple of minutes up the road from where I live to get this shot. I didn’t want any trees or powerlines interfering with the view.
This afternoon after going swimming, this was my view. I had to get a couple of shots because it was so awesome to see. The clouds were building all afternoon but didn’t do much where I was. The forecast is favorable for storm chasing next week. I sure hope so.
This afternoon, the storms were popping south of where I live. I went and did some investigating to see what they were doing. I got a quite a few shots but nothing spectacular where I was. I couldn’t go any further south because of potential hail in the storm cells. As I was heading home, I noticed the clouds to my west. This is one of them. The sunrays and rain wall looked pretty impressive.
Here are more shots from the storm chase last night. One of my favorite ones from the chase is the third shot. It’s what I believe is an epic shot of the sky.
Last night, I went out storm chasing and got 102 shots. These are the best ones from the chase. I will post more later today after I’ve gone through and edited some more. I was trying to post this last night but my power went out. It’s back on so I can take care of editing more pictures and posting more awesomeness from last night.
I went swimming this afternoon and saw this magnificent set of clouds to my southeast. I checked the radar and they were down by the coast, which is a couple of hours away. I drove a few minutes to one of my favorite spots to get storm shots and got a few pictures. I thought the rice bins would be a nice addition to the picture.
I got this shot about two hours after sunrise. The clouds were pretty amazing so I got a couple of shots. Today was a short day of shooting for me. I only got two shots with my camera. This one and another one of the clouds. Tomorrow will hopefully be better since there is a nice chance of storms in the afternoon.
