I went swimming this afternoon and saw this magnificent set of clouds to my southeast. I checked the radar and they were down by the coast, which is a couple of hours away. I drove a few minutes to one of my favorite spots to get storm shots and got a few pictures. I thought the rice bins would be a nice addition to the picture.
This afternoon, I went out to check out the weather. The radar looked a bit impressive when I headed out. As I got out there, the storms had dissipated a bit. I caught this panorama north of Crowley, Louisiana. The forecast is favorable for better chasing tomorrow and Saturday.
This afternoon, I went out chasing some storms. I drove around and got quite a few shots but no lightning. A huge disappointment there but maybe next time. Heading back to the house, I caught this beauty while stopped for utility work on the main highway. The drive home was very windy and heavy rains. No hail thank goodness. I have a sun roof on my car. The best part about the weather today was playing with my youngest daughter in the heavy rain at the house. Fun stuff!!
This evening I went out to get sunset shots because of the clouds in the area, I knew it was going to be a nice one. I got the area where I like to get sunset shots and grabbed a few good ones. I may post a couple of those tomorrow since the above shot isn’t of the sunset. While heading home, I noticed lightning in a cloud not too far from where I was at. I went to one of my storm shot locations and got quite a few shots.
This is two shots merged together in Photoshop, edited in Lightroom and finished up in Photoshop. I’m really stoked about this picture. I was able to get the full moon, lightning and the stars in one picture.
This morning when I got up and looked outside and noticed this line of mushrooms in the grass. Unless something epic came up today, this was going to be my picture of the day. I got a couple of shots of it from different angles to see which one I wanted to use. I added three textures in Photoshop to get the above effect.
Something cool happened to me yesterday late I want to share. On Facebook, the National Weather Service in Shreveport, Louisiana had a contest to submit weather pictures and they would use one of them as their cover photo. Well, I won. Here is the shot that won.

This afternoon we were driving around storm watching because we had scattered storms around us. We came up to a new road for us, so we took it. We wound up seeing this tree in a field so I got some shots of it. I really liked it. I knew when I took it, I was going to convert it to black and white. I cut the clarity in Lightroom to give it a soft feel. I added a couple of curves adjustment layers in Photoshop. I didn’t feel it needed textures so I didn’t add them.
The storm chasing this afternoon was very interesting. We drove from Crowley, Louisiana to east of Jennings, Louisiana to check out storms. I was able to get some shots of really strong storms before having to drive away pretty quickly. It got pretty interesting at times. We saw some low level rotation right over us. It was raining so we couldn’t get shots and I had to get out of there before it decided to drop on us.
The two above shots were caught in the Branch, Louisiana.
This afternoon after going to get my son his drivers license, we did a little bit of storm chasing. I caught this beaut as it was moving north out of Crowley Louisiana. I got some shots when there was one rain dump and drove a couple of minutes up the road and the cell exploded into what you see now. The cell continued to intensify as I was getting shots and drove further north. It produced quite a bit of rain, wind, and lightning. Good day for storm chasing/photography.
This afternoon while heading home from town, I noticed this storm front. I stopped on the side of the main highway and got a few shots. Because this was so cool looking, I decided not to use textures. This shot is a three shot panorama. I really enjoyed capturing this as it was coming in.
Yesterday, we had some pretty nice storms come through southern Louisiana. Because of these storms, I wasn’t able to post my picture of the day yesterday. I caught this before the last round of storms hit. The clouds were incredible, so I was able to get quite a few shots. This is a three shot panorama.
