Sorry for the late post. I had a play performance this evening. After the performance, I checked my radar app and there were some really nice thunderstorms in the area. As we were driving home, we didn’t see any lightning. When we got home, I kept checking the skies for lightning. Nothing for a little bit. After about 20 – 30 minutes of being at home, I saw some flashes. Melody and I dropped the kids off next door and went to one of my storm spotting areas to see what was going on. As we got to the spot to set up, the storm stopped producing lightning. Not pleased but I got a few shots. Maybe next time. Maybe…
This afternoon, Melody (my wife) and I got to do a bit of storm chasing/spotting. We went north of town to check out some intense storms. One of the places we stopped, there was this tree with the storm behind it. We both got some shots of it. I thought it looked really good in black and white. When I processed it in Lightroom, I cut the contrast on one of the pictures and boosted the contrast in another. I merged the two pictures together, pulled out the tree from the high contrast edit and kept the clouds from the cut contrast edit. The tree made a nice addition to the shooting.
This evening, the director of the play we are involved with wanted pictures. She is going to do an article for the local paper about how the community theater is a family affair. My whole family, five of us, are involved in the play. Three of the actors in the play has/had family members involved with the play. After the picture, my in-laws and family went to get a bite to eat in town. We noticed the clouds were building quite nicely so I grabbed a few shots in town. After eating, I checked the radar and the storms had dissipated. No storm spotting this evening. Maybe tomorrow since there isn’t a performance. I can only hope.
This afternoon, we had some really nice storms come through. My wife and I went out to see what was heading our way. This shot was taken when the storm got fairly close to us. It’s two shots merged together. There was lots of lightning but I wasn’t able to catch any. Maybe next time.
I caught this storm cell to the south of me yesterday afternoon before heading to opening night of the play my whole family is involved with. We didn’t get home until really late so I wasn’t able to post my picture. There is a decent chance of thunderstorms today, so I might get some shots before heading to the theater for the play. I sure hope so.
Today, we had scattered showers in the area. I was looking outside to see if any had popped up around us and I noticed a couple of them. I grabbed a few shots and this was the best one I saw. The weather is suppose to get cooler soon. I can’t wait. The humidity and temperatures have been terrible.
Tonight is our last dress rehearsal for the play my whole family is involved with. Tomorrow night is opening night. We are ready to get this going and finished.
I was helping cook supper when I heard some thunder pretty close. My wife went to check out where it was. She said there were storms to the east and southeast. I went outside to check it out myself. When I stepped outside and looked east, I saw a huge anvil cloud. I grabbed my camera and got a few shots. I then heard thunder to the south and went up the road and saw the above view. I had to get a panorama of it because it was so epic. I did do a bit of storm chasing and got a bunch of shots hoping to catch some lightning. I did get one shot but it’s not a very good shot.
This afternoon when I was going to pick up my wife, I saw this nice storm cell to my south. I stopped and grabbed a few shots before picking her up from work and driving to Lafayette to do some shopping. It was good to see some storms that I was able to get pictures of.
Today was a good day for storms. I had storms popping up here at the house so I didn’t have to drive to get some shots. The storms came to me. This afternoon, I was working on my lines for the play I’m in when I noticed more storms starting to form. I grabbed my camera and got a few shots. This was an interesting rain dump so I got a few shots. I will post more pictures of the storms I captured later on. I thought this was pretty impressive.
On our way to play practice, we noticed the skies were pretty epic. We stopped at the cemetery to get some clear shots. I was able to get a panorama of the storm coming in. It was fun to get some chasing in today.
