This was one of our few stops in New Orleans yesterday. I really love the look of the church. I could have shot so many pictures but didn’t have time. Maybe next time we are in New Orleans.
This evening on the way to get some groceries at Walmart, I noticed the sun going down behind the clouds. I stopped in the parking lot and grabbed a few shots. I thought it was really cool how the sunrays were shooting out from the clouds.
When we first arrived at Saint Louis Cemetery 1 and started walking around it, I noticed this rose. I grabbed a couple of shots of it. I don’t do a lot of selective coloring but I felt it was appropriate with this shot. I added a grunge texture and canvas texture for the final effect.
Early this morning, my family and I made a trip to New Orleans to see our “second son”, who has been grafted into the family, get sworn into the Navy. He shipped off today around noon for basic training. After he left, we did some sight seeing downtown. We went to Crescent City Brewery for lunch. Their Black Forest beer was excellent. After lunch, we made it down to Jackson Square and did some walking around. We saw the artists that were out. We went to the Catholic Church and got some shots. It was fun. After we were done, we decided to see one of the cemeteries. When we got to Saint Louis Cemetery 1, it was closed. The brick was low enough for me to place my camera on top and get some shots. This statue caught my attention when I saw her. I got a far away shot first and then the above shot. She really intrigued me because of her positioning and I couldn’t see her. I did my best to focus without looking through the view finder. I pushed the shutter button half way and turned the lens to manually focus (my automatic focus isn’t working). After getting this shot, I grabbed quite a few more. It was getting late, so we went back home. On and off during the drive home, I thought about how I was going edit the picture. Some time in the near future, Melody and I are going back to New Orleans and do a cemetery tour. We will get shots from inside the cemeteries, but not at night. LOL
This evening, Melody and I were out getting sunset shots when we had a little impromptu photo shoot at the place where I like to get sunset and storm shots. This is best shot of the few taken. We both wanted something out of the ordinary with the edit, something grungy, post-apocalyptic looking. I hope I conveyed what we were looking for.
This evening, Melody and I went to a different place to get sunset shots. While getting shots, Melody noticed spider webs in the field. I grabbed my 75-300mm lens and got some shots. I thought it was a very cool shot to get.
Today is a special milestone in my photography. Explanation time – the numbers I put as the title have two meanings. The first one tells of the picture of the day for this year. The second number is the total number of days I’ve taken a picture of the day. So today is my 1,000th day in a row I’ve taken a picture of the day. I went out to get sunset shots this evening because it looked so cool. Not bad for my 1,000th picture of the day in my opinion.
I want to personally thank everyone who has followed, liked, and commented on my blog these past couple of years. It is greatly appreciated. Now on to my next 1,000 pictures.
This is an attempted 360 degree panorama shot while getting sunset shots this evening. I got in the middle of the road and started shooting in a circle before cars drove by. This is 22 shots merged together. Not bad for my 999th picture of the day. I’m not sure what I’m going to do for my 1,000th picture of the day tomorrow. I’m still thinking on that.
I got this sunset in a different area than I usually get my sunset shots. I loaded up the whole family, minus my son, and drove west of town to get some sunset shots. I got 76 shots and came back home so I could edit and post my picture. I had quite a few really good shots to chose from but really liked this one. I didn’t edit this at all in Lightroom and only used a Detail Enhancer action in Photoshop. Nothing else.
Today was an awesome fall day here in southern Louisiana. As the day progressed, I noticed high clouds in the area. It had been a while since my last sunset, I went out and shot it this evening. It was gorgeous. This is a four shot panorama in portrait mode. I really love getting sunset shots.
